HOLIDAYS: Kids' Questions About Santa

When you break it down, it’s a lot to ask kids to put their faith in a jolly man in a red suit with flying reindeer pulling a sleigh filled with toys made by elves. But that’s really only scratching the surface of the questions kids have about Santa Claus. Here are some helpful answers to those tough questions:

  • "How does Santa watch every girl and boy to make sure they’re being good?"
  • Elves are hiding everywhere.
  •
  • "How does Santa deliver all of those presents around the world in one night?"
  • He has more than one night when you consider time zones.
  •
  • "How does Santa carry all those gifts in his bag?"
  • He only carries the gifts for one house at a time. An elf on the sleigh reloads the bag when he gets back.
  •
  • "How do I know which Santa is the real one?"
  • The Santas at the stores and on the corners are helpers. The real Santa is back at the North Pole getting ready for the big day.
  •
  • "How does Santa get into houses that don’t have a chimney?"
  • When Santa can’t go through the chimney to get inside, he uses the front door. In fact, many families without chimneys leave a spare key out for Santa so he can get in a little bit easier.
  •
  • "How does Santa fit down the chimney?"
  • One of his magic powers is to make each home’s chimney big enough for him to fit through.
  • "Why didn’t Santa bring everything I asked for?"
  • If Santa thinks you have enough toys, he gives some of the things on your list to kids who don’t have very many toys to make sure everyone gets a gift on Christmas morning.

And when all else fails, remember two words: Christmas Magic.
