IDITAROD GETS UNDERWAY IN ALASKA

The Iditarod sled dog race got underway in Anchorage, Alaska on Sunday as PETA members protested the annual event. PETA claims more than 150 dogs have died in the race, including one during last year's race. Five dogs connected with the 2017 race also died. The winner is expected in Nome, Alaska in about nine days. The race will take the 14 dog teams across two mountain ranges, the frozen Yukon river and along the Bering Sea Coast.
