Should Steelers Sign Kaepernick With Roethlisberger Out?

This isn’t a great week to be a future hall of fame quarterback. The Saints are down Drew Brees for at least six weeks and the Pittsburgh Steelers are now without Ben Roethlisberger for the 2019 season due to an elbow injury.

As if losing the face of your franchise isn’t bad enough, it’s created an even bigger issue for the Steelers.Mason Rudolph is not only thenewstarting QB, he’s actually the only one currently on the roster since the Steelers traded their other backup quarterbackJosh Dobbsto the Jaguars last week.

What to do? How about giving Colin Kaepernick a whirl? Yup – that’s what a lot of people are saying. While the controversial QB hasn’t seen an NFL field since 2016, he does have a resume that other potentials can’t compete with. He’s mobile, he took the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2013, he’s a household name, and the President has tweeted about him.

Compare that to Devlin Hodges. That’s who the team signed off on last night. How far they’ll take it remains to be seen, but right now, Hodges is on the practice squad and Kaep…well, he’s no worse off than he was 24 hours ago. Except that people are talking about him again...for something other than taking a knee.
