J.J. Abrams On “Star Wars” Criticism: I Can’t Please Everyone

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” didn’t have the best debut. Even before the highly-anticipated finale to the Skywalker Saga hit theaters, the sci-fi flick was being roasted online. But directorJ.J. Abramsdoesn’t seem to mind all the heat.

Speaking at a post-screening interview in Hollywood on Friday, the director responded to the film’s critics – which most recently includes “The Mandalorian” starJake Cannavale. Abrams said he doesn’t agree or disagree with their takes – he’s not taking sides at all. In his mind, you can’t please everyone, especially not within the intense “Star Wars” fandom.

“I don’t need to tell anybody here, we live in a moment where everything immediately seems to default to outrage,” he added. “Especially with ‘Star Wars,’ we knew every decision we made would please someone and infuriate someone else.”
