James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way Of Water” is doing even better than Disney expected. The sequel to the 2009 film took in $82 million over the holiday weekend in North America. The long-weekend haul brings the total domestic box office to $280 million, and almost $900 million globally within the movie’s first two weeks!
Meanwhile the debut of “Babylon”, Brad Pitt & Margot Robbie’s send up to old Hollywood, fizzled at the box office, bringing in just $5.3 million at the domestic box office over the holiday weekend. For reference, that’s a worse opening than box-office bomb “Cats”.
Here are the top five movies at the North American box office this weekend:
- "Avatar: The Way of Water” $82 million
- “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” $17.7 million
- “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” $7.5 million
- “Babylon” $5.3 million
- “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” $4.7 million
