With flu season in full swing, a couple of elementary school teachers wanted to educate their classes on the importance of washing their hands.
To drive the point home they did an experiment with bread by putting 5 slices of bread into separate sandwich bags.
One piece was untouched and moved straight from the bread bag to the sandwich bag, one was touched by kids with unwashed hands, one was touched by kids who washed with soap and water, and one was touched by kids who used hand sanitizer. The final piece was rubbed on a Chromebook.
After a couple of days, mold began to form on the bread with the moldiest piece being the one wiped on the laptop. “Since the results were so shocking, the students and staff have taken a very serious turn toward better hygiene,” said Jaralee Metcalf.
